Reverberations of Life and Loss in Michalis Zafeiris' 'Flows'

Michalis Zafeiris, a renowned Cypriot poet, left behind a rich legacy with his 15th poetry collection, 'Flows,' published in 2025. The review of the book, written in early December and intended for publication in 2026, is presented posthumously, as a tribute to the poet. Zafeiris' poetry is characterized by a deep philosophical approach to life and human existence, with a strong sense of existential anguish and the search for meaning. His verses reflect the passage of time and the alteration of form, but also the need for remembrance and the preservation of youth. A significant part of the collection is dedicated to the poet's brother, Leukios Zafeiris, also a poet, with expressions of pain and recognition of his aesthetic mark. Loss is experienced on multiple levels, with a metaphysical dimension referring to the possibility of reunion. Zafeiris explores the solitary journey of man and the indifferent nature of life, but at the same time combines existential searching with erotic breath. His poetry often refers to his mother and her tragic fate, as well as small, everyday issues, through which great ideas and high ideals emerge.
