Reuters: Netanyahu's Call to Trump Before Strike on Iran

Prior to the US-Israeli strike on Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called US President Donald Trump to explain the reasons for launching the operation. According to sources, both leaders were informed by intelligence agencies that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would meet with associates in Tehran, creating an opportunity to strike at the leadership. Netanyahu, who had been pushing for such an operation for years, argued that this might be the best opportunity to eliminate Iranian leadership and retaliate for previous Iranian attempts to assassinate Trump, including a planned assassination in 2024. Trump had already approved plans for military action but had not decided on a timeline. Netanyahu’s call, combined with information that the Iranian leadership meeting had been moved earlier, reportedly served as a catalyst for Trump’s final decision to order Operation “Epic Fury” on February 27th. Netanyahu reportedly argued that Trump could make history by contributing to the elimination of Iranian leadership, which the West views as dangerous.
