Cyprus is preparing to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 7th with a major ceremony in Nicosia. Representatives from 14 European institutions, organizations, and states are expected to attend the event, including the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, as well as the Presidents of Ukraine, Moldova, Lebanon, and Iraq. The Secretaries-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League, along with delegations from other neighboring countries, will also participate. The Spokesperson of the Cypriot Presidency, Stella Michael, emphasized that the presence of these high-ranking representatives highlights Cyprus's role as a bridge between the EU and the countries of the region. In parallel with the ceremony, bilateral meetings will be held between the delegations and Cypriot officials. The inauguration ceremony aims to showcase the history and culture of Cyprus, as well as its strong ties with the EU. Cyprus's accession to the EU in 2004 is considered the culmination of the country's long journey towards European integration. The Government seeks to promote cooperation and mutual benefit for all partners. Intensive rehearsals are underway for the ceremony, involving artists, organizers, the Police, and state broadcaster. Details regarding traffic arrangements during the event are being finalized and will be announced soon.
