Record €16.5 Billion Bids in New 10-Year Bond Issue

The Republic of Cyprus successfully completed the issuance of a new 10-year bond worth €1 billion. Investor interest was at a historic high, with total bids reaching €16.5 billion, the highest amount ever recorded in a Cypriot sovereign debt issue. The final interest rate was set at 3.25%, while the spread over mid-swap benchmark rates fell to a historic low, confirming market confidence in the Cypriot economy. The success of the issuance is attributed to the sound economic policies of the government, which have created conditions of stability and security for investors. Fiscal discipline and the strong fundamentals of the Cypriot economy led to a reduction in borrowing costs and ensured funding from international markets. Finance Minister Makis Keravnos expressed his full satisfaction with the issuance, emphasizing that investor interest far exceeded the amount sought by the Republic. He highlighted that the success reflects confidence in the Cypriot economy, based on fiscal discipline and development practices. President Nikos Christodoulides described the successful issuance as a vote of confidence from international markets towards Cyprus. The 16-fold oversubscription demonstrates strong demand for Cypriot debt and recognition of the country's economic progress.
