Reactions from T/C Relatives of Students Victims in Adiyaman - All Six Released Despite Convictions

All suspects in the case of the Isias Hotel collapse in Adiyaman, Turkey, during the February 6, 2023 earthquake, are free despite the convictions of three of them to 10 years in prison. The decision has provoked strong reactions from the relatives of the T/C victims, including students from the volleyball team in Famagusta. The court convicted the Deputy Mayor, the Head of the Licensing Office, and the Director of Planning, but rejected the request for their arrest, imposing judicial control and a ban on leaving Turkey. Two other employees were acquitted, as was the Director of Zoning. The lawyers of the victims are seeking conviction for conscious negligence and possible intent, due to the illegal additions and alterations to the building.
