RAF Pilot Downs Iranian Drone and Celebrates with Cypriot Beer

A British fighter pilot flying an F-35 aircraft shot down two Iranian drones over Jordan in a high-risk operation. The pilot, flying in formation with Eurofighter Typhoons, detected the drones and shot them down with ASRAAM missiles, becoming the first Royal Air Force pilot to shoot down a target in real combat conditions with the F-35. The operation required particular caution due to the presence of US and Israeli aircraft in the area, with the pilot emphasizing the need to confirm the target's identity before opening fire. After the shootdown, the priority was to ensure safety and continue the mission. The pilot took off from RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus, which had been attacked by a drone the previous day. The drones he shot down were different from the one that had hit the base, possibly indicating a different origin. After successfully completing the mission, the pilots celebrated modestly by drinking Cypriot beer before returning to their duties. The operation is part of the broader escalation of tensions in the region following attacks on Iran.
