PSE Protest for Venezuela Outside US Embassy in Nicosia

The Pan-Cypriot Peace Council organized a protest outside the US Embassy in Nicosia, expressing solidarity with the people of Venezuela. The protest was attended by members of AKEL, the Communist Initiative of Cyprus, and PEO, holding banners with slogans such as “Hands off Venezuela” and “One enemy is Imperialism”. The President of the Pan-Cypriot Peace Council, Tasos Kosteas, described the US military intervention in Venezuela and the “kidnapping” of Nicolás Maduro as an “act of international piracy” and a violation of international law. He stressed that the US has a history of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, including Cyprus, where it funded the 1974 coup. Academic Giorgos Charalambous emphasized that Maduro’s arrest is a challenge to international law and creates a dangerous precedent, as no state will be safe if the powerful can overthrow governments at will. The protest condemns US policy and supports sovereignty and peace. Speakers stressed the need to resist imperialism and defend international law.
