Prosecution to Appeal Acquittal in 'Golden Passports' Case

Published February 18, 2026, 17:20

The Legal Service announced it will appeal the acquittal of Demetris Syllouris and Christakis Tziovanis in the 'golden passports' case. The Legal Service, through its Communications Prosecutor, Paulina Efthivoulou, stressed that 'legal errors' were identified in the decision of the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia. The appeal will be filed with the Court of Appeal, where these errors will be examined. The Legal Service also emphasized that both the acquitted and itself retain the right to present their arguments to the higher court. The non-appearance of key witnesses, including an Al Jazeera journalist, due to threats and health issues, was highlighted as a significant concern.
