Progress in Resolving Issues for Larnaca Port Workers, Unions Say

Trade unions representing workers at the Larnaca port say that the resolution of their issues with the Cyprus Ports Authority is on track. Following a meeting with the Authority's management, the General Secretaries of SEGDAMELIN-PEO and OMEPEGE – SEK stated that progress has been made on health and safety issues. Specifically, hygiene conditions in restrooms have been improved, cleaning projects and improvements to weighing stations have begun, the Health and Safety Committee has been appointed, and tenders have been issued for services for the moorings. The Health and Safety Committee will meet in early February, followed by a new meeting with the Cyprus Ports Authority on March 3 for further review. The unions express hope that the remaining issues will be resolved soon and that the Larnaca port will become a safe and healthy working environment. They are committed to remaining vigilant and working together in a positive spirit to improve conditions.
