Procedure for Lifting Parliamentary Immunity in Cyprus

The procedure for lifting parliamentary immunity in Cyprus is rare and regulated by the Constitution. According to Article 83, a request from the Attorney General to the Supreme Court is required. The Supreme Court decides on the lifting of immunity, except in cases of serious offenses where prosecution can proceed immediately. Since 1960, parliamentary immunity has been lifted only four times. This process is separate from the criminal procedure, which can only begin after the lifting of immunity.
