Problems with TAKATA Continue: Many People Unable to Get to Work

MP Kostas Kosta highlighted the ongoing problems faced by Cypriot citizens due to defective Takata airbags. Thousands of families have been left without a car, as they cannot use them due to recalls, resulting in many struggling to get to work. Mr. Kosta stated that the Transport Committee is awaiting official figures from the Ministry of Transport regarding the exact number of affected vehicles. There is a deadlock between car dealerships and the MOT, as dealerships are not scheduling recall appointments and the MOT cannot intervene. Furthermore, the recall process is time-consuming, exacerbating the situation. The government has issued notices regarding the non-renewal of registration numbers for cars with defective airbags, causing further difficulties for owners. Mr. Kosta emphasized the crucial role of the Parliament and the revelations of Maria Loui in promoting information on the issue. In addition, he identified a worrying announcement containing the same details as a previous announcement for other recalls, questioning the likelihood of specific actions being taken. The problem of Takata airbags remains acute, significantly impacting the daily lives of Cypriot citizens and requiring immediate and effective action from the competent authorities.
