Price Increases and Growth Slowdown Forecasted by CBC for 2026

The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) forecasts a slowdown in growth to 2.7% and an increase in inflation to 2.7% for 2026. The forecasts incorporate the economic impact of the war in the Middle East and the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus. The war in the Middle East is expected to have a negative impact on the Cypriot economy, particularly on tourism, shipping, construction and real estate. The increase in oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty is expected to reduce external demand and investment. Foot-and-mouth disease is expected to slow down production in the livestock sector, but the impact on GDP and the labor market is expected to be limited due to the small size of the sector. CBC forecasts estimate that domestic demand will continue to be supported by rising incomes and consumption. The rate of GDP growth for 2026 is forecast to slow to 2.7%, compared to 3.8% for 2025, while the rate of GDP growth is expected to accelerate to 2.9% and 3.1% in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
