Pressure Mounts on Presidential Chief of Staff

The Director of the President's Office, Charalambos Charalambous, is at the center of intense pressure from both opposition and ruling parties, leading to calls for his dismissal by President Nikos Christodoulides. The pressure is not expected to subside following the First Lady's resignation from the Independent Social Support Agency. The General Secretary of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, addressed an open letter to the President, expressing his concern over his stance on the scandal and emphasizing the need for accountability. He accused him of either not understanding the seriousness of the matter or tolerating unacceptable practices. AKEL criticizes the President for recycling old practices of avoiding political responsibility and covering up scandals. It proposes the immediate dismissal of Mr. Charalambous, the abolition of the Agency, and the public disclosure of donors. DIKO has also submitted proposals, calling for the dismissal or resignation of Mr. Charalambous, the transfer of the Agency's funds to the ICY, and the appointment of special criminal investigators to investigate the issues arising from the video.
