President: Working Towards a More Autonomous, Competitive, and Prosperous EU

The tripartite Social Summit concluded in Brussels, with the participation of European institutions and social partners. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, emphasized the importance of social dialogue in addressing challenges and seizing opportunities, highlighting Cyprus's long and successful tradition in this area. There is a common approach to strengthening the competitiveness of the EU, particularly in the areas of development and innovation, while maintaining strong social protection systems. Enhancing the workforce with new skills and retraining are considered essential prerequisites for adapting to the demands of the evolving economy. President Christodoulides stated that the Cypriot Presidency prioritizes supporting skills, especially for the integration of young people into the labor market, promoting negotiations on the traineeship package. He also referred to initiatives such as the Youth Guarantee and the Recommendation on Human Capital, which support retraining. Furthermore, he mentioned the agreement to revise the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund, which will contribute to faster and more effective support for workers facing international and technological developments. President Christodoulides pledged that the Cypriot Presidency will work until the last day for a more autonomous, competitive, and prosperous EU that protects common values and creates a favorable environment for all citizens.
