President says working to secure dynamic convening of expanded Cyprus talks

President Christodoulides stated that the government is working with “assertive realism” to achieve a “dynamic convening” of an expanded conference on the Cyprus issue, with the aim of restarting negotiations from where they left off in 2017. This effort is being made in coordination with the United Nations Secretary-General and with the support of the European Union. The President made these statements during a memorial speech for the hero Pantelis Katelaris, emphasizing that the Government remains committed to liberating Cyprus from occupation and reuniting it. He acknowledged that the struggle for self-determination and union with Greece was not fully successful, but stressed that it led to the end of colonial rule and the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. The President outlined the life and actions of Pantelis Katelaris, highlighting his participation in the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters (EOKA) and his heroic deeds. He also referred to the reaction of the hero's mother, who, upon hearing of his death, exclaimed “my country is worth it,” a phrase that symbolizes unwavering faith and sacrifice for Cyprus. President Christodoulides concluded his speech by thanking the organizers of the memorial service and the hero's family, emphasizing that the memory of Pantelis Katelaris will continue to inspire future generations.
