President of EKATE on Karagian: "A Very Special Person - He Had an Aristocratic Aura"

Visual artist and President of EKATE, Athena Antoniadou, spoke warmly about the recently deceased painter Andreas Karagian, describing him as a "very special person" with an "aristocratic aura". Antoniadou emphasized the pioneering nature of Karagian's work, which depicted homosexual desire and the adoration of the male body in a way that was "more innocent" and "more genuine" compared to today's era. She also referred to his works, such as the "Sailors" and the telephone booths, which are characterized by realism. Antoniadou underlined that Karagian was a pioneer for his time, breaking taboos in a Cyprus where homosexuality was stigmatized and criminalized. Finally, she mentioned Karagian's photography exhibition at EKATE in 2023, where he presented the fall of the Berlin Wall.
