The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will attend the joint meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Erhurman, and the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin, with a constructive attitude and based on the long-standing position that “political equality” is already enshrined in relevant UN resolutions. President Christodoulides will present his proposal for restarting negotiations, based on the approach he has developed and utilizing the achievements of the previous negotiating process. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis emphasized that the meeting is expected to focus on restarting negotiations from the point where they were interrupted in Crans Montana, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. The Spokesman responded to questions regarding Holguin's statement that Erhurman's four-point methodology would be discussed, pointing out that President Christodoulides has already clearly stated his position on Erhurman's proposals and will reiterate it. The government believes that restarting negotiations is necessary and that political will must be demonstrated at the negotiating table. The meeting is considered important for finding ways to overcome obstacles and advance the process of resolving the Cyprus issue.
