President of Cyprus to Meet with Italian Prime Minister to Discuss Strategic Cooperation

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, is undertaking a two-day official visit to Rome with the aim of upgrading cooperation with Italy to a strategic level. Meetings are scheduled with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi. Discussions will focus on issues of common interest, such as developments in the Mediterranean, the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency in the Council of the EU, and the Cyprus issue. President Christodoulides expressed his desire to achieve a level of cooperation with Italy similar to that with other European countries, such as France, particularly in the areas of defense and security. This visit marks an effort to strengthen bilateral relations in various sectors. The visit will also include an assessment of plans for the export of Cypriot natural gas to Europe via Egypt, with a focus on investment decisions for the 'Cronos' field. This initiative is an important part of Cyprus' energy strategy. Additionally, an archaeological exhibition titled 'Cyprus and Italy, Common Cultural Identity from the Beginning of History' will be inaugurated at the Castel Sant'Angelo Museum, highlighting the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
