President of Cyprus: Strong Support for Ukraine to be Maintained

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that Cyprus, as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will work to maintain strong and unified support for Ukraine. This was announced following a quadrilateral meeting with the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council, and the President of Ukraine, where the latest developments and joint efforts for a just and lasting peace based on international law were discussed. President Christodoulides emphasized that supporting Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity is a central priority of the Cypriot Presidency, within the broader effort for peace and security in Europe. He expressed his expectation for close cooperation with European institutions to promote important priorities, such as support for Ukraine, enhancing competitiveness, and simplifying procedures. Furthermore, he referred to the informal European Council to be hosted in Cyprus in April, as well as the upcoming joint visit with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. This visit is considered particularly important as it concerns areas of vital interest and strategic priority for the European Union. In a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, President Christodoulides expressed his desire for substantial cooperation in promoting European priorities, including enlargement, defense, and security.
