President of Cyprus Meets with Italian President to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, paid an official visit to Rome and met with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. During the meeting, the close friendship and shared cultural identity between Cyprus and Italy were emphasized. President Christodoulides mentioned Cyprus' assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the EU and the need for coordination with the Italian government for a more autonomous and open Union. The strengthening of bilateral relations was also discussed, with the aim of upgrading them to a strategic level, as agreed with Prime Minister Meloni. President Christodoulides expressed his gratitude to President Mattarella for highlighting the common culture of Cyprus and Italy through the organization of an archaeological exhibition. President Mattarella's visit to Cyprus two years ago was the first official visit by an Italian President to the island. The Republic of Cyprus wishes to work closely with Italy to promote common goals and address the challenges facing both countries at regional and European levels. The official visit takes place 14 years after the last visit by a Cypriot President to Italy, highlighting the importance of restoring momentum to bilateral relations. The organization of the archaeological exhibition is a symbolic gesture that highlights the long-standing ties and common cultural heritage of the two countries.
