President Meets Egyptian Oil Minister – “Egypt is a Strategic Partner of the EU”, Says Christodoulides

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, met with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, who represented President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the Opening Ceremony of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. President Christodoulides emphasized Cyprus's priority to bring the EU closer to the region and Egypt, describing Egypt as a strategic partner and pillar of stability. The two men discussed the importance of cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on the exploitation of the 'Cronos' deposit. President Christodoulides announced a meeting with an ENI representative on this issue. He also expressed his expectation for close coordination in promoting common priorities. The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum congratulated President Christodoulides on assuming the Presidency and stressed the strategic importance of cooperation between the two countries. He expressed his belief that the Cypriot Presidency will have a positive impact at all levels.
