President Highlights Importance of Invitation to Peace Council, Decision on Representation by Tomorrow

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, described the invitation and Cyprus's participation in the upcoming Peace Council meeting on Gaza as particularly important. Cyprus will participate in the meeting as an observer, which is considered a positive step by the United States. President Christodoulides stated that Cyprus will present its plan for Gaza, which it had presented in Egypt, and which concerns the implementation of three aspects of the American President's plan. Cyprus, as a member state of the European Union and in contact with other Mediterranean countries, believes that its participation in the meeting serves its national interests. A decision on who will represent Cyprus at the meeting, either the President himself or the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be made by tomorrow. Italy has also responded positively to the invitation, and other European countries are expected to participate. Cyprus had declined to participate in a previous meeting of the Peace Council due to disagreements with the United Nations.
