President Christodoulides Submits Five-Point Proposal for Cyprus Talks

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, submitted a five-point proposal during the meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhürman, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin. The proposal includes reaffirming the basis for a solution to the Cyprus issue, recording convergences by the UN, convening a formal conference to restart negotiations, and announcing the opening of four new crossing points (Kokkina, Louroujina, Mia Milia, and Athienou – Aglantzia). President Christodoulides stated that the proposal concerns the substance of the problem and the MOCs, and expressed his intention to announce unilateral measures for the Turkish Cypriots. Erhürman agreed not to speak on behalf of the other. Erhürman's proposal for a four-point methodology was rejected, as President Christodoulides reiterated that these points have already been addressed.
