According to reliable sources, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, is prepared to announce two unilateral measures to benefit Turkish Cypriots. These measures concern healthcare and the economy, however, the President has first requested the positive stance of the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman. The President's goal is to avoid creating tension and build a personal relationship with Mr. Erhurman, which is why he is awaiting his agreement before the official announcement. At the same time, the arrival in Cyprus of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, is expected by the end of the month. Ms. Holguin will have previously held contacts in Geneva, Brussels, and Washington. The President Christodoulides has accepted Ms. Holguin's request for a meeting and has proposed a new joint meeting with Mr. Erhurman, but has not yet received a response.
