President Christodoulides Does Not Rule Out Opening Chapter on British Bases

President Nikos Christodoulides stated on Friday that he does not rule out the possibility of opening the chapter regarding the British Bases in Cyprus, responding to questions from journalists. This statement follows inquiries to the Government Spokesperson and the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the same matter. The President emphasized the need for calm and composure, as well as strict adherence to official government announcements regarding developments and any protective measures that may be necessary. Mr. Christodoulides also mentioned a meeting he had with the head of British Intelligence, where views were exchanged on developments in the region. He did not provide further details about the meeting but assured that the Government is closely monitoring developments in cooperation with its partners in the European Union and other countries. The President assured the Cypriot people that Cyprus will not be involved in offensive or military operations and will continue to be part of the solution. He acknowledged the public's concern but called for calm and adherence to government instructions. Civil defense has already made specific references, and the Government calls on all Cypriots to be vigilant but with composure and rationality.
