Precarious Water Reserve Situation Despite Beneficial Rains – No Water Security Created

Despite the beneficial rains of this hydrological year, the situation with water reserves in Cyprus remains precarious and no water security has been created, according to Senior Officer of the Water Development Department, Gianna Economidou. The inflow of water into the dams is the fourth best of the decade, but reserves remain below 1/3 of the total capacity. Rainfall in March was 149% of normal, while the dams of Arminou, Xyliatou, Argaka, Pomos, Kalopanagiotis, Klerou, Soleas and Lympia overflowed. The Water Development Department calls on citizens to continue responsible water consumption and the Water Boards to reduce losses in the networks.
