Postponement in Demosthenes Murder Case Due to Legal Objections

The trial for the murder of Stavros Demosthenes has been postponed until April 29th due to the lack of evidentiary material that has not yet been submitted to the defense. Six individuals, aged 28 to 51, are accused of the murder that took place in October 2025. During today's court appearance, defense attorneys emphasized the need to receive the complete evidentiary material in order to prepare their clients' defense. The lawyer for one of the accused filed a request for his release on restrictive terms, arguing that there is insufficient evidence against him and that there is no risk of flight. He claimed that the prosecuting authority is based on speculation and security camera footage. The court will decide on the request on March 26th. One of the accused, who was arrested in Thessaloniki with a European arrest warrant, is accused of assisting the perpetrators' escape after the murder. His defense argues that there is no direct evidence against him and that his presence in the area was coincidental. The 51-year-old accused, whose genetic material was found in a stolen vehicle used to monitor the victim, remains free on restrictive terms. The other accused either did not object to the continuation of their detention or were released on restrictive terms. The case has generated significant interest and is expected to continue with the examination of all evidence and testimonies.
