Eleni Sokratous, known as 'Nitsou', the protagonist whose story formed the basis for the bestselling book 'Helen the Prostitute - An Angel in Hell' and the subsequent television series, passed away six months before her final vindication in court regarding the violation of her personal life by author Annita Nikolaou. The vindication came after a long legal battle. The case concerned the story of Eleni Sokratous, who found herself in a brothel in Limassol at a young age. She had initiated legal proceedings against the author, arguing that the book violated her personal life. The lower court had dismissed her lawsuit, but the Supreme Court ultimately ruled in her favor. Laris Vrachimis, the lawyer for Eleni Sokratous, stated that the appeal was filed in 2016 and the decision was issued ten years later. He noted that the author had collected information about Ms. Sokratous's life through meetings and notes, but had not obtained her consent to publish the story. Mr. Vrachimis emphasized that the book contained inaccurate and offensive information, such as false claims of sexual abuse by her father, which caused great distress to Ms. Sokratous and defamed her. Ms. Sokratous was particularly upset by the fact that she was demonized and recognized as 'Helen the Prostitute'.
