Politico: Trump Cybersecurity Chief Uploaded Sensitive Files to Public ChatGPT

The acting director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Mandu Gottomukkala, uploaded sensitive contract documents to a public version of ChatGPT, triggering multiple security alerts. Gottomukkala had received special permission to use the Artificial Intelligence tool, while access was blocked for other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees. The files, while not classified, contained “For Official Use Only” information, considered sensitive. The DHS conducted an internal investigation to assess the impact on government security, the results of which have not been made public. CISA defended Gottomukkala’s use of ChatGPT, emphasizing the leveraging of artificial intelligence for government modernization.
