Political tremors over video: Meetings with parties and scenarios of withdrawal

Political tremors are intensifying in Cyprus following the revelation that excerpts of a video featuring the former director of the President's office, Charalambous, were stolen from a joint video call with businessman Lakotrypi and alleged investors. The call took place on December 9th while the President was at another event. This information, if confirmed, undermines the government's attempt to distance itself from Lakotrypi. At the same time, the existence of a second video has been reported, increasing concern. The President met with Nikola Papadopoulos, who demanded explanations, while EDEK also expressed complaints about the lack of communication from the President. The party submitted three requests: the appointment of independent criminal investigators, the abolition of the Fund, and the publication of its contributions. The President of the Republic stated his willingness to publish information, but within the legal framework. The Fund's financial statements for 2024 show revenues of €2,176,196 and financial aid of €1,597,210, with a surplus of €573,132. The Fund's total surplus amounts to €2,644,235.
