Political Crisis in Italy: Resignations Following Meloni's Referendum Defeat

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has accepted the resignations of Deputy Justice Minister Andrea Delmastro and the head of the Justice Minister's private office, Giuseppina Bartolozzi, as a direct consequence of the recent referendum defeat on judicial reform. Delmastro resigned due to his past involvement with a restaurant linked to the Mafia, while Bartolozzi had sparked controversy by comparing judges to “firing squads” during the election campaign. Meloni is reported to have requested their resignations and has also urged Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè to resign, as she faces charges of false accounting and fraud. The opposition is also calling for the resignation of Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, who has taken political responsibility for the failure of the judicial reform.
