Police Officers Protest Against Chief: 'He Interfered with Our Lives and Pockets'

Members of the Police Branch of the Equality Union protested outside the Parliament, protesting the decision of the Chief of Police to reduce their days off. They complained that the decision was unilateral and that there was no consultation. The protesters handed over the Police Law to the President of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, as a memorandum, emphasizing that the law had been violated. They expressed the view that the decision to reduce days off affected their personal and family lives, as well as their finances. The President of the Police Branch of the Equality Union, Nikos Loizidis, accused the Chief of Police of "interfering with our lives and pockets", stating that cuts to police officers' labor rights began in 2013. Members of Parliament and representatives of parliamentary parties expressed their support for the protesters, recognizing the importance of their work and pledging to pressure the state for change.
