Plenary Session: Retirement Age for Chief and Deputy Chief of the National Guard Set at 62 – Amendments Approved

The Plenary Session of the Parliament approved amendments to the National Guard law, concerning the mandatory retirement age of the Chief and Deputy Chief, as well as the rank required for their appointment. Specifically, the retirement age was set at 62, while it is stipulated that the Deputy Chief must hold the rank of Brigadier General or Lieutenant General at the time of appointment. The amendments also provide for the payment to the Chief or Deputy Chief, upon the expiration of their appointment, of the value of any leave accrued. The aim of the amendments is to clarify the provisions and harmonize them with the regulations applicable to officers. With these changes, the provision regulating mandatory retirement upon the expiration of the appointment is abolished, so that these issues are regulated as a whole in the provisions of the National Guard law. The amendments were approved with the aim of simplifying and clarifying the legal framework governing the appointment and retirement of the senior officers of the National Guard.
