Phytiris Sends New Year Message to Police Amidst Work Schedule Controversy

Minister of Justice, Konstantinos Phytiris, sent a message to the members of the Police Force on the occasion of the New Year, at a time of tension due to the change in work schedules decided by the Chief of Police. This decision provoked strong reactions from the police unions, SAK and ISOTITA, who expressed their dissatisfaction with harsh statements. In his message, Minister Phytiris attempts to defuse the situation by explaining his position on the necessary reform and emphasizing the importance of dialogue to find solutions that will strengthen the effectiveness of the Force and support its personnel. He stresses that the reform will be dynamic, will be continuously monitored and adjusted as needed, aiming for a fair, functional and humane system. The completion and implementation of the process is expected by the end of April 2026, with an emphasis on meritocracy, equality before the law and respect for police officers.
