Parliament Approves Law Protecting Fertile Agricultural Land from Commercial Renewable Energy Installations

The Parliament unanimously approved a bill protecting fertile agricultural land from the installation of commercial renewable energy sources. The amendment to the existing law prohibits the placement of renewable energy installations for commercial purposes on high-value agricultural land, such as fertile, irrigated, or protected land. However, the legislation still allows for the installation of photovoltaic systems for agricultural use. A proposal for the fair management of surplus energy and citizen compensation was also passed. The amendment came about after recommendations and concerns from stakeholders, aiming to ensure the protection of agricultural land and promote sustainable development. The law aims to prevent the uncontrolled use of fertile agricultural land and prioritize the primary sector.
