Parliament Approves Ban on Photovoltaics on Fertile Agricultural Land

Parliament unanimously approved a bill banning the installation of photovoltaic systems on fertile agricultural land for commercial purposes. The proposal, submitted by MPs from AKEL-Left-New Forces, aims to protect valuable agricultural land, such as fertile or permanently irrigated land, from the uncontrolled installation of photovoltaic parks. The legislation, however, still allows for the installation of photovoltaic systems for the benefit of the agricultural sector. During the discussion, amendments were made to define the criteria for fertile land and protect areas of high natural value. The new legislation is expected to contribute to maintaining agricultural production and protecting the rural landscape.
