Papacharalambous: DISY strayed, and 'pikkes' politics prevailed (VID)

Andreas Papacharalambous, former Mayor of Strovolos, announced his departure from the Democratic Rally (DISY) and his decision to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections with ELAM. He explained that ELAM combines traditional values with an understanding of modern problems, such as immigration and low birth rates, offering proposals and solutions. Papacharalambous emphasized that his departure from DISY is due to both personal and ideological reasons, as he believes the party has followed a course he does not recognize. In particular, he criticized DISY's stance in the presidential elections, where it appeared to prioritize 'pikkes' (possibly referring to deals or concessions) over taking a clear position. He argued that his choice to support Nikos Christodoulides in the presidential elections was the best possible for Cyprus and believes that Christodoulides's course so far justifies his choice. He admitted that his wife is not enthusiastic about his public appearances in dance rhythms. He also expressed criticism of the local government reform, which he had initially supported, believing that it is not working due to lack of resources and dysfunctions. His decision to join ELAM marks a significant change in his political career.
