Palma – Dendias Meeting: Discussion on 'Kentavros' Anti-Drone System – Bilateral Defence Relations in Focus

The Minister of Defence of Cyprus, Vasilis Palmas, met with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, in Athens to discuss bilateral defence relations and the security situation in the region. Mr. Palmas expressed Cyprus' gratitude for Greece's immediate response to the crisis, with the dispatch of frigates and fighter jets. He also referred to the upgraded role of Greece and Cyprus in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, emphasizing their humanitarian and peacekeeping role. Nikos Dendias mentioned Cyprus' interest in purchasing the Greek anti-drone system 'Kentavros', which will be presented at the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI). Mr. Dendias stressed the importance of cooperation in the defence sector and monitoring developments in the region, including the economic impact of rising energy prices. The discussion also focused on the situation in Lebanon and Iran, as well as the challenges facing economies due to the energy crisis. Both ministers agreed on the need for close cooperation and coordination of their efforts to address common challenges. The meeting confirmed the stable and in-depth relationship between Greece and Cyprus in the field of defence and security, as well as their joint commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
