Palimpsest Worlds: Exhibition in The Hague Featuring Cypriot Artists

The exhibition “Palimpsest Worlds” is being held in The Hague from March 26 to April 26, as part of the Cultural Program of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The exhibition, hosted at Pulchri Studio Lange Voorhout 15, explores the concept of the palimpsest through the works of visual artist Toula Liassi and the 4ELEGY Project (Elena Parouti and Irene Stavrou). The exhibition functions as an artistic metaphor for European identity, presenting the coexistence of many voices, stories, and cultures. Through multi-layered works, the artists explore the relationship between past and present, memory and creation. The flute composition Breaths Palimpsest Worlds by flutist Eva Stavrou will be presented at the opening of the exhibition. Toula Liassi approaches the palimpsest as memory, using photographic and painting collages inspired by objects and fabrics from her family home in the occupied Agia Triada. The 4ELEGY Project explores the concept of the palimpsest through works that highlight the ongoing dialogue between history and contemporary creation. The exhibition serves as an artistic commentary on cultural diversity and the dialogue between tradition and contemporary art. The artists believe that art can highlight different aspects of Cypriot history and showcase the rich cultural identity of Cyprus.
