Pafos Chess Players Dominate Cypriot Youth Championships

Young chess players from Pafos excelled at the 2024 Pan-Cypriot Youth Chess Championships, winning three first places and two additional distinctions. Oresteos Neofytou (under 8), Savvas Konstantinou (under 14), and Antonis Pikolos (under 10) emerged as champions in their respective categories, with Pikolos being the first Cypriot winner in his category. Additionally, Giorgos Kakouris secured second place in the under 12 category, and Elena Osadcha took second place in the girls' under 12 category. The championships were held in Nicosia from January 2nd to 6th and covered age groups under 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, and 8, under the auspices of the Cyprus Chess Federation and the Ministry of Education. The Pafos Chess Club participated with 16 children, demonstrating a high level of concentration, critical thinking, and analytical skills. The president of the Pafos Chess Club, Arkadios Koulaxidis, emphasized the benefits of chess for children and the club's efforts to develop and promote the sport, as well as the effort to include it in the school curriculum. The Cyprus Chess Federation warmly congratulated all the champions and athletes who participated in the championships.
