Outrage at EAC: Two-Hour Strike Tomorrow

Representatives of the EAC trade unions are furious, accusing private individuals of seeking to close down the EAC. They announced a two-hour warning strike tomorrow, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, as a sign of protest. They accuse former officials of the CERA and former Ministers of sending letters and complaints to sabotage the inclusion of electricity storage units that could benefit small consumers. The trade unions claim that private companies have acquired RES licenses through former officials, creating a private monopoly, while stressing that the EAC has been left behind in the energy sector. They warn that Cyprus risks being left without sufficient electricity and water. A representative stated that a group of private interests, with a former Minister as a spokesperson, is submitting complaints to CERA, and questions the lack of state protection for consumers. They also denounced deliberate and erroneous policies of CERA. They emphasize the lack of a comprehensive energy plan and do not rule out an escalation of protest measures if their demands are not met. The warning strike will not affect the flow of electricity to consumers, with the exception of shift personnel, standby crews and the fault reporting center.
