Published January 5, 2026, 19:20

An outcry has erupted within the Democratic Rally (DISY) following allegations by Nikos Sykas's partner to the Police regarding physical violence and assault during a vacation in Athens. DISY President Annita Dimitriou immediately announced that the investigation will proceed without delay and that she considers it necessary for the MP to voluntarily waive his immunity. Furthermore, she proposed the immediate removal of Nikos Sykas from the Limassol ballot, a decision adopted by the party's Executive Office. Nikos Sykas categorically denied the allegations, expressing shock at the leak of the complaint to the media and social networks before he was even called to testify. He stated that he respects the investigative procedures and is ready to present his version of events. The Assistant Attorney General is reviewing the case and the medical documents submitted by the complainant, while also assessing the criteria for lifting the MP's immunity. According to reports, these criteria appear to be met and a request is expected to be submitted to the Supreme Court next Wednesday. The Limassol TAE Violence Squad has prepared an indictment against the MP, including the offenses of assault causing actual bodily harm and the exercise of psychological violence. The case has provoked strong reactions from political parties, with MPs stating that such behavior is unacceptable, especially from those who legislate.
