Outcry in DISY: Sykas Out of Ballot – Waiver of Immunity Requested

An outcry has been caused in DISY after the leak of information that MP Nikos Sykas will not be included in the party's ballots due to an allegation of assault by his partner. Mr. Sykas categorically denies the allegation, speaking of “popular courts”. The president of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, has stated that there is no tolerance for violence and announced that Mr. Sykas will be removed from the ballot, while also requesting the voluntary waiver of his parliamentary immunity. The complaint concerns an incident that occurred at a hotel in Greece during the New Year's days, while a medical certificate records the findings of the woman's examination. The case file has been forwarded to the Legal Service, which will decide on further handling and the possibility of lifting the MP's immunity. The Police has the right to investigate the case, despite the fact that the offense was committed abroad, as Mr. Sykas is a Cypriot citizen and the offense is also punishable in Cyprus.
