Organized Crime Cases in Larnaca Lead to Arrests and Detention

The Larnaca Police are currently investigating organized crime cases following recent incidents of assault and gunfire. Individuals allegedly involved in rival criminal organizations have been arrested and are being held in custody, facing charges including protection racketeering and drug trafficking. Specifically, a 48-year-old man believed to be the leader of one of the groups is being held for two additional days and is expected to be charged with a brutal assault on a European citizen. Two “businessmen” are under 4-day detention for possible interference in a judicial process. Meanwhile, five individuals linked to the opposing group, including a National Guard contract soldier, are being held for 8 days. Video footage from a mobile phone, implicating them in serious offenses, played a crucial role in their arrests. The investigation concerns offenses such as participation in a criminal organization, conspiracy, extortion, demanding property under threats, and money laundering. Police are meticulously examining evidence, such as notebooks with monetary amounts, to reveal the full extent of the criminal activity.
