Odysseus: Polls Show Need for Change - Barbs at ELAM

The head of the Alma movement, Odysseus Michailidis, commented on the poll for the upcoming parliamentary elections, emphasizing that a clear trend for change is being recorded in society. He stressed that citizens realize the need for reforms and will have the choice to choose the party that will play a regulatory role. He considered that the dilemma is whether this party will be ELAM or a serious, responsible and moderate party with positions and proposals for change. Michailidis presented a package of proposals that will be Alma's first actions in Parliament, if elected with strong representation. He mentioned the need for constitutional changes and for a substantial reform of the institutions. Regarding political collaborations, he clarified that Alma does not seek institutional collaborations, but is open to ad hoc collaborations with parties of the democratic spectrum. Particular emphasis was placed on the issue of accountability, proposing the separation of powers of the Attorney General and the Legal Counsel and the removal of the unchecked power of the Attorney General. He believes that these changes will strengthen public trust and ensure the investigation of corruption cases. He also referred to the recognition of the FIR of the Republic of Cyprus by the US as a positive development. Finally, he stressed that Cyprus must maintain a balanced position, strengthening its international collaborations, with respect for international law, and condemned any action that violates international law in the Middle East.
