Trump Threatens Tariffs Over Canada's Cooperation with China

Donald Trump threatened to impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian goods and products entering the US if Canada proceeds with an agreement with China that would allow the latter to use Canada as a “landing port” for entering the American market. This threat comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, which marked the beginning of a “new strategic partnership” between the two countries. Trump has previously expressed opposition to close economic ties between other countries and the US, and this specific threat is a continuation of that policy. Furthermore, he recently included Canada in the territories he considers necessary for the “Golden Dome,” a defense program.
