UN Warns of "Real" Risk of "Humanitarian Disaster" in Lebanon

The UN is warning of a "real" risk of a "humanitarian disaster" in Lebanon, as the situation is "extremely worrying". More than one million people have been displaced in the country due to ongoing conflicts. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) expresses concern about the situation of the displaced and the lack of access to basic services. The UNHCR reports that over 136,000 displaced people are housed in community shelters, mainly schools, which are overcrowded. People live in constant fear and the psychological effects, especially on children, will be long-lasting. The destruction of strategic bridges by Israel has isolated more than 150,000 people and limited access to humanitarian aid. The World Health Organization (WHO) is facing problems in transporting materials and has begun sending humanitarian aid by land. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is distributing aid to households, such as blankets, mattresses, meals and drinking water. The Lebanese Red Cross provides ambulance services and has implemented an emergency blood transfusion plan. The escalation of the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as the economic and political instability prevailing in the country. The international community is called upon to increase humanitarian aid and work for peace and stability in Lebanon.
