No Competition Distortion Risk from Cooperative Bank Regime Modification, Says Supervisor

The Supervisor of State Aid Control, Stella Michaelidou, stated that the modification of the Cooperative Bank regime does not pose a risk of distorting competition. The modification concerns the possibility of KEDIPES to repurchase portfolios of non-performing loans protected by the Asset Protection Scheme (APS). The Commission had initially approved measures for the liquidation of the Cooperative Bank in 2018, which have been amended several times since. Ms. Michaelidou emphasized that the modification does not involve new state aid, but utilizes the initial one, and does not affect Cyprus' claim to receive the proceeds from the bank's recovery.
