The European Union and India have signed a historic free trade agreement, dubbed the 'mother of all deals'. The agreement, which comes after 20 years of negotiations, creates a single trade zone covering approximately two billion citizens. It provides for the gradual reduction and elimination of tariffs on many products, facilitating trade between the two sides. Europe gains access to the Indian market for industrial products, pharmaceuticals and alcoholic beverages, while India improves export terms in sectors such as textiles and IT. The agreement is considered important in a period of international uncertainty. Simultaneously, the President of the Republic will visit India in May, following the Indian Prime Minister's visit to Cyprus last year. The two leaders exchanged wishes in Greek and are expected to sign cooperation agreements.
