Nicotine Pouches: Law Passed to Regulate Trade and Distribution

The plenary session of the Parliament approved a bill proposed by DIKO MP Chrys Pantelidis to regulate and control the trade and distribution of nicotine pouches. The law aims to protect public health, serve the public interest and combat smuggling. Nicotine pouches contain plant-based nicotine, water, flavoring substances and plant-based fibers and do not contain tobacco. Chrys Pantelidis stated that these products are circulating in Cyprus without substantial regulation or control, are of dubious quality and origin, endanger public health, especially of young people, and create a breeding ground for smuggling. The law will regulate the trade and distribution of nicotine pouches, bringing them under control and ensuring their quality and origin. The goal is to protect citizens, especially minors, from the risks associated with the use of these products, as well as to prevent smuggling and increase state revenues.
